Melissa Huizinga, President and Owner of Arborworks, has had a lifelong appreciation for hard work and the great outdoors. Melissa’s earliest horticulture and arboriculture experiences date back to her childhood. Growing up on 17 acres of wooded property and farmland, she spent many hours outside working and enjoying nature.

Throughout high school, college, and grad school, Melissa was able to draw business and operational experience by working in the field, with customers, and in management. These opportunities provided a springboard for learning the tools of the trade and the behind-the-scenes technical and business knowledge needed to be successful in starting and operating her own tree removal company years later.

During the first few months of Arborworks’ existence, Melissa procured a federal tree maintenance contract for the US Army. Subsequent and repeat contracts were won from other federal agencies, municipalities, and commercial entities, allowing Arborworks to grow to be the utility certified, vegetation management services provider it is today.

In her role, Huizinga works closely with both field and administrative teams to ensure they have the strategies and resources to operate effectively and efficiently. Recognizing that strong leadership starts at the top, Huizinga’s daily mission is to lead and motivate her team to embrace Arborworks’ core values and seek to provide safe and quality operations that surpass our client’s expectations.
