Melissa Huizinga, President and Owner of Arborworks, has had a lifelong appreciation for hard work and the great outdoors. Melissa’s earliest horticulture and arboriculture experiences date back to her childhood. Growing up on 17 acres of wooded property and farmland, she spent many hours outside working and enjoying nature.
Throughout high school, college, and grad school, Melissa was able to draw business and operational experience by working in the field, with customers, and in management. These opportunities provided a springboard for learning the tools of the trade and the behind-the-scenes technical and business knowledge needed to be successful in starting and operating her own tree removal company years later.
During the first few months of Arborworks’ existence, Melissa procured a federal tree maintenance contract for the US Army. Subsequent and repeat contracts were won from other federal agencies, municipalities, and commercial entities, allowing Arborworks to grow to be the utility certified, vegetation management services provider it is today.
In her role, Huizinga works closely with both field and administrative teams to ensure they have the strategies and resources to operate effectively and efficiently. Recognizing that strong leadership starts at the top, Huizinga’s daily mission is to lead and motivate her team to embrace Arborworks’ core values and seek to provide safe and quality operations that surpass our client’s expectations.
Trained employees. Employees regularly attend training to sharpen their skills and keep them up-to-date on current industry trends and best practices. For field workers and supervisors, these trainings include weekly safety meetings, Electrical Hazard Awareness (EHAP), Aerial Lift safety, Chipper safety, CPR & First aid, Aerial Rescue, Chainsaw Safety, Pesticide License, and Certified Treecare Safety Professional license among others.
Key members of the administrative staff maintain appropriate business certifications and further their training through seminars, leadership conferences, industry conferences, and educational opportunities.
Quality Control. Safety and customer satisfaction are paramount to the Arborworks way. To that end, we are always looking for ways to finetune our services to offer our customers the best in quality and safe operations. Policy and procedure are frequently reviewed to ensure the highest standards of quality are being met.
Customer Service. Building strong customer relationships is key to our success. Work is performed with careful attention to detail, contract specifications, and the highest industry and safety standards to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations. Regular communication and quality control checks allow us to provide a positive experience for each of our customers!
Environmental Responsibility. Arborworks is committed to keeping this planet beautiful by preserving the environment and natural resources. To that end, we recycle our logs and wood chips, minimize unnecessary waste, and provide beautiful green space that others can enjoy.
Social Responsibility. In an effort to give back to the communities in which we serve, employees annually volunteer at non-profit organizations to contribute their knowledge and expertise. We have assisted with property maintenance, tree removal and pruning, and arborist consultation services.
